New Understandings on the Dongting Commandery of the Qin Dynasty Seen in the Unearthed Historic Documents

洞庭郡是仅见于出土文献的秦郡，里耶秦简发现之前，历代学者对其一无所知。随着新发现简牍的整理和公布，学界对它的讨论越来越多，认识也越来越清晰。关于洞庭郡的郡治，已有的说法颇多，有临沅说、临湘说、沅陵说、长沙说、索或临沅说等，因公布资料有限，多为推测。

In the Qin bamboo slips unearthed at Liye, some entries about document delivery provided clues for our understanding to the seat of the Dongting Commandery of the Qin Dynasty and the districts under its jurisdiction. During the twenty-eighth to the thirty-fourth years of the reign of Emperor Qin Shihuang, the seat of the Dongting Commandery of the Qin Dynasty has ever transferred from Xin Wuling to Yuanyang, the reason for which might have been related to the establishment of the Wuling Commandery. The Xin Wuling was nearby the Yiling City Site of the Western Han Dynasty in present-day Xupu County, and Yuanyang was in present-day Qiancheng Town, Hongjiang City, both in Hunan Province. The newly seen districts of Menqian and Shangyan under the jurisdiction of Dongting Commandery would have been situated between Suoxian and Lingyang Districts. The ＂Song Yu City＂ and ＂Shen Ming City＂ sites in present-day Linli County might be related to them.
