The scholars in Song Dynasty had calm and peaceful mindsets which could be reflected in their works with rich and complex emotions. All of these scholars had their own different experiences. This paper is to analyze their mindsets from two completely different kinds of mindsets - - - one is an official mindset and the other is the one away from officialdom. The paper describes the scholars＇ uncontrolled calmness after being demoted, the open - minded calmness in smoothly official career, the vigorous calmness after being dismissed from officialdom and the self - disciplined calmness in the life of being a civilian.
