小说《芒果街上的小屋》借美籍墨西哥小女孩之口,揭示芒果街上深受墨西哥传统束缚的女性生活。在墨西哥传统束缚下的女性都被分为两个对立面,要么像瓜达卢佩圣母一样的好人,要么像马林切一样的坏人,在这个二元对立之间没有中间灰色地带。然而阿莉西娅和埃斯佩朗莎却不甘于这种传统定式,她们通过自己不同的方式构建出一条二元对立外的女性发展道路。

The novel ＂The House on Mango Street＂ used a little Mexican American girls words to reveal the women＇s life in mango street under the bound of Mexican tradition. Women under the bondage of traditional Mexico are divided into two opposite - as good as the mother of Guadalupe, or the same as the bad guys of La Malinche. There is no middle gray zone between the two opposites.
