The types and sources of rice leaf color mutants were introduced and the evolution, localization and cloning progress of rice leaf color mutation related genes were reviewed. Simultaneously, it detailedly elaborates genetic mechanism of leaf color mutants in rice from these aspects including the nucleus of genetic mutations, the cytoplasmic genetic mutations as well as mutations of nuclear mass interactions . Furthermore, it proposes prospects in the application on rice breeding as amarker trait , aiming to provide references for the research and application of leaf color mutants in rice.
