Stomach is the most sensitive organ to stress, followed by the duodenum. When individuals suffer severe mental stress, the body instinctively makes a functional and structural response involving nerve, body fluid, inflammatory mediators and cytokines, which causes stomach and duodenum to suffer lesion. This process is called stress ulcer or stress-related mucosal disease. As a unique, indirect factor, natural disaster links psychological stress to human peptic ulcer. The following is a brief review of the progress and status quo of the current research into post-disaster stress ulcers.
