Initial Probe into the Modal Particles of the Interrogative Sentence Ending in Biography of Heroes and Heroines

清代长篇侠义小说《儿女英雄传》是历史上一部重要的文学作品,它不仅内容丰富,脉络清晰,极富鲜明的文化价值,而且真实地再现了19世纪北京话的基本面貌,包含特色的语言价值。其中,精深的书面语与简洁的口语相互穿插,极富语言特色。最有特点的疑问句句末语气词运用广泛,种类多样。它由单音节句末语气词和双音节句末语气词组成。本文采用定量分析与定性分析相结合的方法对疑问句句末语气词进行了有效说明,并进一步分化二者的区别。

Biography of Heroes and Heroines is a chivalrous novel written in Qing Dynasty and is of great impor- tance in the history of literature. It not only contains rich content and legible context,reflects distinct cultural value,but also reproduces the basic features of Beijing dialect in nineteenth century, which involves distinctive linguistic values. In this novel, profound written language and concise oral language interwine with each other in presenting its linguistic features. The wide use of various modal particles of the interrogative sentence ending in Biography of Heroes and Heroines can best represent its features. It is composed of monosyllable and dissyllable at the end of interrogative sentences. This paper makes use of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to ef- fectively elaborate the modal particles of the interrogative sentences and illustrate the differences between them.
