An Empirical Study on University Faculty's Part-time Working in China

摘要 本文基于2007年"变革中的学术职业"中国大陆地区的数据分析了大学教师的兼职行为。通过考察高校教师参与兼职活动的影响因素,本文发现个人特征和工作特征是影响教师兼职的重要因素,而院校特征和个人收入对兼职的影响并不显著。此外,本文并没有发现校外兼职会减少高校教师周工作总时间及其在教学与科研中的分配时间的实证证据。最后,本文对实证发现进行了总结并针对加强高校教师兼职的规范和管理提出了政策建议。 This study analyzeduniversity faculty's part-time working activities based on the data of Changing Academic Profession (CAP) survey in China's Mainland, which was conducted in 2007. The empirical results suggested that individual, and work characteristics were the most important determinants of university faculty's part-time job participation. However, institutional characteristics, and personal income did not have significant effects. Moreover, this study did not find empirical support that part-time working participation reduceduniversity facuhy's total weekly working hours, and time allocation to teaching and research. Finally, empirical findings were summarized and implications were presented on how to strengthenthe regulation and management for part-time working academics in Chinese universities.
