An excitation model and optical cavity construction suitable for compact high power diffusion cooled CO2 lasers is described.Multiple slab discharges are established in a diffusion cooled radial electrode array. Each gain channel is independently driven from common RFsource via a resonant cavity power distribution system. Radial excitation expanded with multichannel self-injection phase locking provides stableoptical power extraction at good efficiency. The package construction is easily scalable to very high powers while dramatically reducing unit sizeand cost.
