爱尔兰作家詹姆斯·乔伊斯的《都柏林人》是其最著名的一本短篇小说集。其中,《泥土》揭示了当时社会意识形态影响下人性的缺失与堕落,唤起人们对精神自由的追求。从功能文体学的及物性系统理论视角对小说《泥土》的文本进行剖析,揭示作品人物刻画手法和写作风格,探讨作家呼唤爱尔兰人民摆脱精神缺失、追求精神自由与意识觉醒等主题的深层含义,为小说文本的解读提供一个新的研究视角。

The Dubliners is the most famous short-story collection by Irish w riter,James Joyce. As the shortest story in the collection, Clay reveals the deep theme that the loss and deterioration of humanity has corrosively influenced the Irish people under the social background of British ruling.Joyce aims to arouse Irish people＇s aw areness of pursuing the spiritual freedom. Based on functional stylistics,this paper analyses Clay in terms of transitivity theory,and discusses connection betw een the deep theme and w riting style. This new perspective enables readers to better understand the novel.
