Analyzing the translated versions of children literary works from the perspective of systemic functional linguistics provides a theoretical frame for translation appraisal. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, a children literary work of American humor novelist Mark Twain, is a worldwide classic in child literature. According to Halliday＇ s theory of Textual Meta-function, this paper provides a comparative analysis of two Chinese versions of this book in terms of field, tenor, mood and the ideational meaning, interpersonal meaning, textual meaning, and verified the feasibility and value of apprising translation of children literary works via functional discourse theories.
