Flannery O’Connor,a famous American Southern female writer, thinks that the value of literature lies in what the author can witness to rather than what he or she can theorize. She calls her fictions as“Realism of Distances”,trying to reflect more authentic reality in them. She witnesses ans reveals the ubiquitous, obvious or hissen evils, with“grotesqueness”as the primary means of her ar-tistic expression. She tries to withstans nihilism in her fictions. Her masterpieces A Good Man Is Hard to Find ans Good Country People represent the basic style of her writing, revealing the essential func-tion of literature:to let the invisible things be seen.
