在散文集《在新疆》中,刘亮程始终保持着他对孤独体验的清醒认知。月光代表神秘,向往高寒,却无法自由飞升,只能永远孤独地悬挂高空。树扎根大地,却挣脱不了人类的束缚,遭遇着被砍伐、被利用,或孤独老去的命运。它们的孤独与寂寞就是新疆人民的写照:具有安于天命的隐忍,却也背负穷困孤寂的烦恼;拥有古老、恬静的心灵,却无法逃脱现代化入侵时的不平衡。在新疆时间的束缚下,寂寞并非一种短暂的情绪或感受,而是个体生命的存在方式,必定长久地贯穿每个人的一生。

In the essay collection In Xinjiang,Liu Liang-cheng always keeps awake to the lonely experience. Moonlight is the symbol of the mysterious,longing for the high and cold,but it could not soar freely, lonely hanging in the sky forever.Tree is rooted in the earth,but it could not break the shackles of humanity,encountering the fate of being cut down,of being used,or of dying alone.Their loneliness and isolation is the portrayal of Xinjiang people：they are content with destiny but also they bear poverty and loneliness;they own the ancient,quiet mind,but they can not escape the imbalance caused by invasion of modernization.Under the restraint of Xinjiang time,loneliness is not a fleeting emotion or feeling,but an existence of individual life,which runs through every person＇s life for a long time.
