On the Guiding Role of the Metonymic Theory of Translation in Law Translation

认清转喻与翻译的关系,有利于我们以转喻式翻译理论为框架,深入剖析该理论对法律翻译的指导作用。鉴于法律文本的文体特征,法律翻译中的转喻词汇一般采取"译入语对应喻体翻译"的翻译策略。在法律翻译过程中,应当在初稿与终稿中的句型方面进行必要的转喻转换,以确保翻译的准确性、一致性、规范性与简洁性。转喻式翻译理论对法律翻译理论研究与翻译实务有一定的指导意义。

Drawing on the relationship between metonymy and translation, this paper analyzes the guiding role of the metonymic theory of translation in law translation. The translation of metonymie expressions in law texts should adopt the ＂target language vehicle＂ translation strategy on the basis of the stylistic features of law texts. The metonymic shifts between sentential types in the first and final draft should be processed to meet the requirements of precision, consistency, normalization and conciseness. The metonymic theory of translation can provide a practical framework for law translation, shedding lights on the translation research and practice in general.
