The extracurricular reading is the extension of classroom teaching activities, the most critical factors to reduce students＇ burden from schoolwork and promote students＇ comprehensive development, and the most effective way to promote teachers＇ professional growth. Students＇ acquisition of good reading habits and their improvement of reading levels depend on their teachers＇ selection of their extracurricular reading contents and teachers＇ effective guidance on their reading methods, all of which are inseparable from the teachers＇ reading literacy. In his educational works, Sukhomlinskii made a detailed discus- sion of the value of extracurricular reading for students＇ and teachers＇ personal development, which has a great reference sig- nificance even for today＇s education; hence, the joint efforts from society, schools, teachers and families should be made to promote effective development of contemporary extracurricular reading.
