The National Imaginary in Margaret Atwood's The Robber Bride

Margaret Atwood＇ s The Robber Bride is a chronicling of the trajectory of the Canadian imagina- tion of national identity. The author alludes to the imaginative construction of Canadian identity through the narratives of her female protagonists. Through fictional narration, the novel reveals national identity as a dynamic process characterized with pluralism and in-betweenness in the context of Canada＇ s postcolonial and multicultural society. This paper aims to examine Atwood＇ s fusion of her female individual narratives with national imagination from both political and postmodernnarratological perspectives, and attempts to bring to light the author＇s social and cultural concerns through writing.
