The words Jilu( 鸡麓), Ji( 鸡), and Xi( 奚) in the Oracle inscriptions are all about the same geographical place. As a major hunting ground in the late Shang Dynasty, this place located in the upper Wenshui River region, which is in the sphere of the present day Shandong Province. In the Zhou dynasty, this region developed into a border town of State Lu, which is proved to be the place of Xi as recorded in the Annals of the Spring and Autumn, where King Huan of State Lu battled with State Qi. To locate the position of Jilu can not only provide a new evidence for the late Shang Mountain Tai hunting ground, but also serve as an important new coordinate for the study of Eastern Area Geography in the oracle and bronze inscriptions.
