"桐城派"之名最早提出者,并非曾国藩,而是道光前期的胡敬。虽然姚鼐真正创立了桐城派,但由于早年乾嘉学派的影响和晚年自身门户观念的淡泊,并没有给予定名。梅曾亮扩大了桐城派的影响,曾国藩让"桐城派"之名广播天下。因此,文学流派的发生发展,既是个体的努力,也是文坛群体的逐渐认可与接受。

The first person putting forward the name of ＂Tongcheng school＂, was not Zeng Guofan, but Hu Jing in the early period of Emperor Daoguang. Due to the early influence of Qianjia School and later his indifferent concept of it, Yao Nai did not put forward the name of ＂Tongcheng School＂, although he founded it. Mei Zengliang expanded its influence and Zeng Guofan spread it to the whole country. So the development of literary schools not only results from individual efforts, but also the gradual recognition and acceptance of literary groups.
