East Asia Economic Community: Vision and Reality

东亚地区的复杂现实催生了相互促进、相互补充的多种合作机制,而由东盟主导的东亚合作方式照顾了各方的舒适度,使得区域合作进程得以维持,但在地区国家政治互信不足、大国竞争有所加剧、东盟的中心地位疲弱的背景下,需要新的合作理念和思路来引领地区国家走出合作迷思。以"东亚经济共同体"为长远目标的东亚经济一体化仍是各国的共同利益所在。当前,首先需要克服固有思维模式对"东亚经济共同体"认识的桎梏,继而在开放地区主义新理念的指引下,积极探索、稳步推进适合地区新形势的理性路径,最终实现真正的地区和平、稳定与繁荣。

While the complicated reality in East Asia has hastened the mutual promotion and complementation of various cooperation mechanisms, the East Asia cooperation model under the 'ASEAN Center' has made the regional cooperation progress sustained as it takes care of the comfort of all the parties concerned. Against such backdrop that political mutual trust among the regional countries is lacking, rivalry among major powers is intensifying, and the position of ASEAN Center is weakening, there is a great need of new cooperation ideas and thoughts to take the regional countries out of the cooperation confusion. The economic integration in East Asia with the East Asia Economic Community as its long-term goal is still where the common interests of all countries concerned lie. Currently, there is, first of all, the need to remove the shackles of inherent thinking over the East Asia Economic Community before actively exploring and steadily promoting a rational path suitable for the new situation in the region under the guidance of the new concept of 'open regionalism' so as to realize the regional peace, stability and prosperity in its true sense.
