摘要
本文尝试借助被设定为《金瓶梅》故事舞台的山东清河县城与临清城,以及小说涉及的与城市中某些地点相关的活动,并结合明代地方城市生活相关的文献与图像,探讨明代中国城市中是否存在打破社会界限、众人均可进入、功能复合的公共空间。论文将首先具体剖析哪些人在哪些情况下使用寺院道观、酒楼、街道等这些通常被视为古代城市中公共空间的地点;也试图找出在什么情形下,某些限制是真正被削弱的;最终文章将指出如同"占有"是理解住宅之"私"的关键,性别和身份界限成为理解城市是否"公共"的关键,这些界限是前现代中国社会结构的根基,只有在特定的时间,在郊野城外、街道等未明确定义的地方,这些界限才被削弱,而只有这些界限被削弱甚至被否定时,"公共"才开始呈现,以其为基础的社会结构也相应的被削弱。
Based on novel Chin Pin Mei and combined with textual and visual materials, this paper will discuss the following question: is there any public space which has multiple functions and can be accessed by all people in Chinese cities? This paper will differentiate groups that are allowed to enter into temples, restaurants and streets that are regarded as public space in Chinese traditional cities by most scholars today. Then this paper tries to reveal in what circumstances segregation between social groups and genders is broken or weakened. Finally, it points out that segregation between social groups and genders on which social fabric founded is significant for us to understand so-called public space in Chinese traditional cities. Segregation will be slackened only in undefined places such as streets or outside of city walls; and public will not emerge until the segregation is slackened or even broken.
