On the Nature of the University

大学气节是大学气概、风骨的体现,是大学品性、风范、节操的精髓。大学主体的自觉、大学理想的坚守、大学之道的体认和大学责任的担当是大学气节的基本内涵。只有进一步回归大学本质、提振大学精神、践行大学核心价值体系、完善大学制度,才能使大学气节得以不断标举和光大。

The nature of the university is the spirit, the strength of character of the uni- versity, as well as the quintessence of its quality, the demeanour and the principle. Its fun- damental connotations include the awareness of university subject, sticking to the ideal of the university, realizing the ideology, and taking on the responsibility. Only when it returns to the intrinsic qualities of the university, uplift its spirit, fulfill the core values and perfect the collegiate system, could we carry forward the nature of the university.
