Set the Naponion Wars as its background, interwoven with two narrators,Henri and Villanelle,The Passion describes the story of the two lovers who undergo a series of manipulations and exploitations from those- in- power in Paris and Venice respectively, later encounter each other in Russia and determine to escape. On account of the radical differences in personality and preference, this romantic story ends up with the permanent separation in two diverse spaces where both protagonists eventually feel the sense of belonging. The thesis aims to interpret the novel from Kristeva's theory of the semiotic and symbolic spaces, between which the subjectivity of the characters oscillates, then recounts the importance of poetic language in the process of protagonists' voyage from innocence to self- awareness, and eventually displays the correlativity between Winterson and Kristeva, both stress the dialectical oscillation of two realms as their position against the patriarchal binary position.
