On Wang Chuan-shan's Values of Spirit of Chinese People and Social Judgment

王船山《春秋》学承自父,故谓之"家说",其春秋大义价值观亦出自家学,其主要内容还是传统内容,但是,由于特殊的社会遭遇,"今族类之不能自固,而何他仁义之云云也哉",王船山春秋大义价值观中出现了"固族"和以"生民之生死"为重的内容,成为"古今之通义"的核心,以此为标准,衡量、评判历朝历代的许多社会现象,提出加强"华夷之辨""人禽之别",揭露佛释、老庄、申韩等异端思想的危害。

Wang Chuan shan＇s doctrine of Spring and Autumn inherited from his father, so it is called ＂the family doctrine＂. His value of the spirit of the Chinese people is also from his family doctrine, and its main content is also traditional. But, due to the special social sufferings, he thought that ＂if a nation can not guaranty their normal survival and development and resist the outside aggression and oppression, we have no right to talk about humaneness and righteousness＂. Therefore, the idea of ＂guaranty a nation＇s survival＂ and ＂common people＇s life＂ as the key content appeared in Wang Chuan-shan＇s value of the spirit of the Chinese people, which became the core of ＂universal morality in ancient and modern times＂. Based on this standard, he measured and evaluated many social phenomena of dynasties and proposed strengthening two defenses of ＂Chinese and barbari ans＂ and ＂the difference between men and poultry＂ and revealed the harms of Buddha, Laozi and Zhuangzi, Shenzi and Han Fei-zi as well as the heresy preventing the spread of Confucianism.
