2016年3月,韩国政府在初中全面推行"自由学期制"改革,旨在解决韩国基础教育目前存在的问题及弊端,缓解青少年学业压力,提高青少年学校生活幸福指数,指导青少年正确认识自我及明确未来职业方向。"自由学期制"的具体运行模式是在"自由学期"内,取消所有书面考试,开展"共同课程"及"自由课程"的教学。改革重点内容包括"自由课程"的开发与实施、学生参与、互动协作、自主学习为中心的课堂教学模式的变革,以及学习过程为中心的学生评价方式的改革。
