Yan Lianke's attention to the secular countryside is largely based on the physical illness of characters and their mental deformity he described. In this paper, the internal interleaving of "body" and "spirit" in Yan Lianke's novels is analyzed so as to explore the relationship between them. "Body" is a symbol of physical disability, and the corresponding "spirit" is a symbol of mental deformity. The physical injury'gives birth to a deeper spiritual pain, embodying far-reaching meanings.
