A On Initial j-in Zaomin Yao Language

本文详细描写了藻敏瑶语j-声母的四个变体:硬腭无擦通音j、擦音■、龈腭塞擦内爆音■和龈腭闪音。其中龈腭塞擦内爆音较为罕见,龈腭闪音国际音标表目前没有专门的记录符号。

This paper describes four allophones of the initial consonant/j/, in Zaomin dialect of Mien, that is, a palatal approximant [j], a fricative [z], an alveolo-palatal implosive affricate [dz] and an alveolo-palatal flap. Among the four allophones, the alyeolo-palatal implosive affricate is rare in languages; the notation symbol of the alveolo-palatal flap is lacking in present version of International Phonetic Alphabet, and this paper reports its first occurrence. As a result thereof, this paper discusses the origin of the designation of Zaomin.
