李渔是一位集创作与批评于一身的小说大家。他认为历史小说、世情小说都要追求实录美,较早在小说中提出了情节批评的概念,并主张小说要吸收戏曲的表现手法。这些观点,都极大地推动了清代小说思想的发展。

Li Yu was a great novelist of creation and criticism. He held that the historical novels and realistic novels should record the authentic beauty. He was one of the earliest novelists to propose the concept of plot criticism in novels, and to maintain that novels should absorb the expression techniques from dramas. These points of view greatly enhanced the development of ideas on novel in the Qing Dynasty.
