Freud believed that dreams were an expression of one's subconscious. Dreams, often employed in novels, express the subconscious of both characters and authors. Jia Pingwa is good at empolying dreams into his novels, and Missing the Wolf is a representative in this respect. In this novel, dreams both suggest both the heroUncle Fu Shan's fear of wolves and the author's reflection on the problem of survival in modern civilization.
