Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a prevalent disorder with adverse effects on human health and multiple organ damage.Recently, emerging evidence indicate that the possible association between OSAS and cancer. The data from epidemiologic studies suggest that OSAS may contribute to increased cancer incidence and mortality.Experiments in animal models suggest that intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation have effects on cancer biology and are likely contributing to tumor progression. In this review,we summarize the evidence supporting putative association between OSAS and cancer, and further explore mechanisms that may account for this association. The possible relationship between OSAS and cancer may provide new insight for further research.
