徽州砖雕风格清秀雅致,刀工细腻精致,线条柔和纤细,花卉图案多层重叠,内容则出现戏文、传说等民俗图案,人物图案注重故事情节的完整和艺术语言的叙事功能。山西砖雕风格浑厚朴实,恢弘大气,刀刻线条粗犷明晰,构图浑朴厚重,内容相对简明独立,花卉图案繁复,多有凸雕的花瓣出现,而且墙字、匾额、楹联和碑刻较多。
