Jewish people in America waver between staying in their diaspora and returning to their ancient homeland. After Israel was founded as a Jewish state,Jewish American writers have expressed shared concerns about their cultural identity and spiritual home.In his novel The Counterlife,Philip Roth deals with such anxieties during the Jewish pursuit of an ideal homeland either in USA or in Israel the new Jewish country. The novel also marks Roth's stylistic turn from postmodernism to neo-realism.
