Q-switched lasers are currently the gold standard for laser tattoo removal. Although these systems are generally quite effective and safe,certain limitations exist in the routine treatment with them,including but not limited to incomplete clearance,long total treatment duration,wide treatment intervals and occurrence of side effects such as blistering and scarring. New techniques may help to bring in better clinical outcomes with minimal risks of complications. These techniques include multi-pass treatments,application of picosecond lasers,combined laser treatments,combination of topical imiquimod and laser treatment and so on. This article provides an insight into these new techniques.
