This paper makes a detailed textual analysis into Albee's play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by employing Bakhtin's poly- phonic theory and tries to investigate whether the polyphonic elements are contained in it. The research discusses the dialogism in the work from two aspects: great dialogue and micro-dialogue. The author holds the idea that the feature of the great dialogue lies in the dialogic relationship between characters through their verbal expressions, while the characteristics of the micro-dialogue exists in the connotative dialogue within each character's own mind. Through the engagement of the multi-level dialogues of the characters, the playwright reveals the plight of the couple in the play, and most American intellectuals and even upper class society after the breakup of American dreams.
