Based on ten selected texts from Chinese TV interview programs Yang Lan One-on-one and its American counterpart The Oprah Winfrey Show, this paper comparatively studies the use of first personal pronouns between the two hosts from China and America and their cultural identities constructed correspondingly. The results show that the first personal pronouns are used as marked discourse strategies to construct the hosts' cultural identities.Specifically, the Chinese host uses more plural forms of the first personal pronoun to highlight the group to which she belongs, and to keep her own ideas and opinions without being fully expressed. At the same time, the American host uses a great number of singular forms of the first personal pronoun to make a full self-presence in the interview actively. The difference of personal pronoun use between the two hosts demonstrates the construction of collectivistic cultural identity and individualistic cultural identity of Chinese and American hosts respectively, and gives prominence to the markedness of first personal pronouns as discourse strategies to construct the cultural identities of Chinese and American TV interview hosts.
