George Sanders' s short story Tenth of December tells a story of redemption. Suffering from the torture caused by illness and the traumatic memory left by his ill-stricken step-father,Eber intends to commit suicide. On the way,he spares no efforts to save a drowning boy called Robin. His reflections during that process and a series of things later make him re-experience love and concern among people and his suffering soul gets redeemed. From the perspective of trauma theory,Eber's journey to suicide can be viewed as a pilgrimage to redemption: escaping from trauma, confronting and reexamining traumatic blow. The short story reflects the writer's humanistic concern to the elderly patients of the unprivileged represented by Eber.
