北魏平城的开发是国家强制力推动的结果,平城所处区域偏居雁北,受到地理环境、气候因素的制约,尽管其在人口规模上可比肩于同时期的中原大城市,但是经济结构却具有很大的特殊性,呈现出农业、畜牧业等多种经济成分杂糅的经济形态,同时由于自身生产能力不足,严重依赖武力掠夺与区域外物资的长距离输送。频发的自然灾害,军事实力衰落之下式微的物资攫取能力均对平城经济造成了致命性打击,平城经济的凋零有其经济结构上的历史必然性。

Because of its economic structure,the decline of Pingcheng＇s economy is historically inevitable. Restricted by the geographical conditions and climate factors,the economic structure of Pingcheng region is special,presenting the mixed economic forms of agriculture,stockbreeding and other economic sectors. Besides,self deficient production capability,frequent natural disasters,and decreasing plunder goods from the declining military might cause the fatal blow to Pingcheng＇s economy.
