The Sino-Foreign Exchange and the Change of ‘Literature' in the Late 19th Century

19世纪后半期的中外交往是近代中国"文学"演变的重要阶段。在传教士论述、游历笔记、通过人员交往与书报交流而来的日本观念中,"文学"因人因时而异。这些不同的"文学",部分来自中国古代语意的影响,在新时代产生不同指谓;部分是表达外来观念的新用法,既有直接从西文翻译而来,又有从日本转介的新词汇。受不同来源观念影响,"文学"的内涵范围随语境而变化,影响其在近代中国的流变。

The exchange between China and foreign countries in the second half of the nineteenth Century was an important stage of the evolution of‘literature’in modern China.In missionaries’writings,travel notes and concepts coming from Japan through personnel and book exchanges,‘literature’changed with time due to people.These different‘literatures’partly came from the influence of ancient Chinese meanings used to explain new problems,and partly were the new uses to express foreign ideas,both were directly from the western translation and new words from Japanese referral.Influenced by different sources,the connotation of‘literature’changed with context and influenced its evolution in modern China.
