Objective To investigate the clinical effects of Health Qigong on patients with Parkinson's disease(PD).Methods Forty-one PD patients were randomly divided into the Qigong group(23cases)and control group(18cases).Regular medications were applied in both groups.Compared with the control group,10-week Health Qigong was conducted in the Qigong group,5times per week for 60 minutes each time. The timed "up and go"(TUG),one-legged blind balance test were performed before, during, and after the intervention. The physical coordination and mood test were performed by the Unified PD Rating Scale(UPDRS),Hoehn-Yahr stage and Beck anxiety inventory(BAI).Results After 10 weeks of Health Qigong exercises, patients in the Qigong group showed significant trend of reduction in the H-Y stage,UPDRS-Ⅲ and BAI(P〈0.05,P〈0.01),but the control group was not obvious(P〉0.05).By observing the data changes before and after the treatment in the Qigong group, the TUG reduced gradually in the fifth and tenth weeks, and the difference was significant(P〈0.05);The one-legged blind balance test time prlonged in the fifth and tenth weeks(P〈0.05).Conclusions Health Qigong exercises can improve the body functions of patients with mild and moderate PD,especially in the terms of balance. It might also relieve the anxiety to some degree.Health Qigong is worth promoting.
