《国家坐骑》是李学辉在传奇小说《天下神马》和《末代紧皮手》两部长篇小说之后的又一部长篇新作。这部以凉州奇特习俗书写为内容的小说极其逼真地展现了1893年到1930年左右西部凉州人民的灾难史。小说把西凉马文化的深厚传统与近代历史叙述相结合,展现了局部地域近代历史的狰狞面目,也深刻地揭示了国家意识、国家精神与人民命运的深刻关系。小说对义马和圉人涅槃般自焚提升的西部凉州人独有的国家观念与现代国家观念作了比对分析,体现出独特的文化批判色彩。

National Horses is a new novel written by Li Xuehui following the Legendary Horse and The Last Leathertighter. This novel, of which the main content is Liangzhou＇s peculiar customs, vividly shows the disaster history in Western Liangzhou from 1893 to 1930. Combining the profound tradition of Xiliang horse culture and the modern historical narra- tive, the novel shows an ugly face of modern history, and reveals the profound relationship between national consciousness and the fate of people. Besides, the novel compares national concept peculiar to Liangzhou people with modern na tional ideas, which reflects the unique cultural criticism.
