Poetry annotations prevailed in the Song Dynasty, which claimed to be thousands of people annotating Du and hundreds of people annotating Su. A meaningful phenomenon was that many of these annotators, especially such famous ones like Zhao Cigong, Shi Yin, Zhao Kui, Ren Yuan, Shi Rong, Shi Jiwen, Li Bi and so on were people from ancient Shu region. This phenomenon did not originate from nowhere. It was the result of the meeting of the historical tradition of Shu people's love for lit- erature with the Shu region's political, economic and cultural situations in Song Dynasty, related with the characteristics of Song poems and poetical elucidation, and triggered by the accidental gathering of annotators and poets. Therefore, the phenomenon was diachronically the manifestation of the evolution of literary tradition in the Shu region, and synchronically, one of the accom- plishments of Shu scholarship in the Song Dynasty and pride of Shu people.
