Adaptation and alienation are the two prime strategies in the subtitle translation, which is chiefly decided by the characteristics of subtitle translation, the purpose of translation and the readership. Based on the analysis of the subtitle translation in ConFessions of a Shopaholic and Friends, it leads to the conclusion that both strategies, which complement each other, can achieve the success of the audience＇s understanding of the plot as well as the faithful dis- play of the foreign culture.
