从昌邑群臣看刘贺之废

On the Deposition of Liuhe from the Aspect of Changyi Officials

刘贺被迎立为帝后,将昌邑群臣征入京师,见诸史籍的有太傅、相、中尉三个二千石,郎中令及其官属,仆、师、侍中、卫士长、礼乐长,及被称为驺宰官奴的内廷从官。但除了王相安乐除为长乐卫尉外,其余从官都没能迁除为汉家官吏。刘贺虽名为皇帝,但连未央宫的护卫,也无从插手。这说明从一开始,刘贺的行动就完全掌握在霍光手中,刘贺根本没有能够掌控局面。反之,刘贺一表现出对霍光和汉家不利的迹象,就被霍光废黜。从昌邑群臣的归宿,可以看出刘贺政治能力的缺失。

Liuhe＇s accession took Changyi Officials, as Taifu （Grand Mentor）, Xiang （Grand Councilor）, Zhongwei （Chamberlain）, Langzhongling （Chamberlain for Attendants）, etc., into the Court of Han. They hadn＇t got any new position in the Royal Court except Anle, the former Changyi Xiang. Although Liuhe was the Emperor, he couldn＇t handle anything, even his own guard. It meant that Liuhe, who was short of the ability on political situation, was controlled by Huoguang from the very beginning. And when Liuhe showed a bit of signs unfavorable for Huoguang and the Han Empire, Huoguang diserowned him. We can conclude that Liuhe was in lack of political competence from the fate of his officials.
