文学翻译中的文化缺省补偿策略研究——以《红楼梦》杨译本为例

On Compensation Strategies for Cultural Default in Literature Translation——Illustrated by A Dream of Red Mansions

文化缺省是文学作品中常见的现象。在阐释文化缺省概念的基础上,尝试将其分为三类,即:绝对文化缺省、相对文化缺省和对应文化缺省。以《红楼梦》杨译本为例探析三类文化缺省的翻译补偿策略:绝对文化缺省的补偿手段主要有直译、意译、文内解释等,相对文化缺省的补偿手段主要有直译、意译、替代等,对应文化缺省主要使用直译和音译来补偿。

Cultural Default is a common phenomenon in literary works. Based on the definition of cultural default, the paper tempts to categorize cultural default into three patterns, i.e. absolute cultural default, relative cultural default and equivalent cultural default. With concrete analysis of the English version of A Dream of Red Mansions, the paper illustrates the compensation methods for the three patterns of cultural default respectively. The compensation methods for absolute cultural default are mainly literal translation, paraphrase, intratextual explanation, etc. For Relative cultural default, the compensation methods are mainly literal translation, paraphrase, substitution, etc. while the methods for equivalent cultural default are mainly literal translation and transliteration.
