Synopsis Based on the present situation of energy consumption in Jiuquan Steel and China's steel enterprises, this paper analyzes advantages of using natural gas as an injected fuel of blast furnace as well as a reducing reagent for iron direct reduction processes. By calculating the economic benefits of using natural gas under Jiuquan Steel's conditions, the authors suggest that the adoption of natural gas as a part of substitute energy seems to be an effective way to speed up the development of Jiuquan Steel.
