A Comparative Study of Personal Pronouns in the Sui Language

水语的人称代词非常丰富,在三个土语中,第一人称单数多达十种。通过对这些人称代词及用法进行比较,发现水语人称代词第一人称单数到第三人称单数呈递减趋势,双数及多数形式多用增标法;各地人称代词虽然有些细微的差别,但调类相对一致。

There are a lot of personal pronouns, especially the first person singular in three dialects of the Sui language. Tone categories are relatively identical although pronouns in different dialects are a little bit of difference. The form of the first person singular is over ten kinds. This paper explores semantic, morphosyntactic and pragmatic characteristics of the pronouns from synchronic and diachronic perspectives. The study shows there is decline tendency from first personal singular to third personal singular. Dual and plural pronouns take plural？markers.
