“马留话”并非就是廉州话

"马留话"常见于一些历史学家或语言学家的著述,说它是廉州话的另一种称呼,其起源与东汉伏波将军马援有关。但案查史料却发现,连"马留人"的存在都存疑,"马留话"则与今日廉州话更不相干,它只是部分研究人员出于对家乡的热爱,在没有详细考证的情况下制造出来的历史神话。

Maliu dialect is another kind of appellation of Lianzhou dialect in some historians＇ or linguisticians＂ books. The origin of Lianzhou Dialect relates to General Fubo, Ma Yuan, who lived in Han Dynasty. But according to the historical data, whether Maliu Nationality ever existed is still a question and there is no relationship between the Maliu dialect and Lianzhou Dialect. Therefore, Maliu Dialect is only a kind of historical legend out of some researchers＇ love for their hometown without careful verification.
