田同之是清代前中期山左诗坛的一位重要的诗论家,著有《西圃诗说》《西圃词说》等文学理论著述。《西圃诗说》在诗学批评形式上多摘句前人诗论之精粹并加以阐发印证,其持论以自然神韵为旨归,于历代诗人诗风品评、商榷前人诗论观点及渔洋诗学之旨的阐发中,体现出了作者不俗的学术观点和诗歌理论思想,是山左诗人诗论传承中的重要理论著述。

Tian Tongzhi , an important poetical theorist from Shandong Parnassus in the early and middle period of Qing Dynasty, wrote Xipu Shishuo , Xipu Cishuo and several Books of Literary Theo- ry. In the book of Xipu Shishuo , he makes quotations and analysis from the essence of previous poetic remarks as the form of criticism. As a primary writing of the poetic inheritance in Shandong Parnassus, this book reflects the author＇s commendable academic views and poetic thoughts on the fields of Natural - Verve Theory, the remarks on the poet poetry, the discussions of previous poetic views and the analy- sis of the purpose of Yu yang＇s Poetics.
