The film ‘Song of the Phoenix＇ is adapted from Xiao Jiang-hong＇s novel with same title. The film re-creates the image of Jiao-san by emphasizing his sheer tenacity and rebellious actions, and injects tragic spirit into the tragic consciousness in the book. As a result, a sad tragedy is transformed into a noble tragedy. The transformation represents Wu Tian-ming,the director＇saesthetic concepts and practical experiences.
