学长治馆:夏元瑮与北京大学图书馆

The Dean Administering the Library——Mr. Xia Yuanli and the Peking University Library

夏元瑮在担任北京大学理科学长期间曾经短期兼任过北京大学图书馆主任,对北京大学图书馆的发展,尤其是理科图书藏书发展做出过重要贡献,既有宏观上的整体管理和规划,又有微观业务的具体参与,包括亲自购买外文图书、编制书目、撰写新书导读等,还将自己从国外带回的最新西文图书捐赠给图书馆,在图书馆思想和实践上都有值得圈点的地方,是尚未得到应有肯定的我国民国时期重要的图书馆管理者。

Mr. Xia Yuanli,the dean of the sciences,Peking University,used to be a part time head librarian in the Peking University Library. He had contributed great to the development of the Peking University Library,especially to the development of science books. Besides to the general administration, he also got involved in foreign books acquisition, cataloguing, and reading guidance by himself, and even donated the newest books bought from abroad to the library. As an excellent dean who had done the great jobs for the library,his thought and practice of library administration deserve careful study.
