A Research of the Cultural Aggression Based on the Analysis of Its Content and Communication Strategies in the Geographical Articles of Eastern and Western Ocean's Monthly Investigation

《东西洋考每月统记传》一般被视作外国传教士在中国领土上创办的第一份近代中文报刊,也是针对近代外国传教士所办中文报刊历史评价的核心研究对象。针对当下许多研究强调该刊以及其他外国传教士所办中文报刊促进东西文化交流、推动中国现代化积极意义的倾向,本研究特选其中"地理"专栏文章进行传播内容和传播策略的分析,揭示所谓"知识内容"背后文化侵略的企图与手段,重申"外人在华办报活动本质上是殖民主义文化侵略活动"的定论。

Eastern and Western Ocean＇s Monthly Investigation is generally regarded as the first modern Chinese newspapers and periodicals founded by foreign missionaries on the territory of China, which is also the core object of research on the historical evaluation of Chinese newspapers and periodicals founded by modern foreign missionaries. Regarding to a lafge number of researches that tend to lay stress on the active role of the journal and other Chinese newspapers and periodicals founded by foreign missionaries in enhancing the cultural exchanges between the East and West, and driving China＇s modernization, this research specially carries out analysis of the content and communication strategies in the Geographical Articles of Eastern and Western Ocean＇s Monthly Investigation, so as to reveal the purposes and means of the cultural aggression behind the socalled ＂knowledge content＂. It comes to the conclusion that ＂foreigners＇ establishment of newspapers in China is es- sentially to serve the cultural aggression of colonialism＂.
