What Keeps Rural School Teachers Teaching in Adverse Circumstances:A Study of the Characteristics of Resilience of Primary School Teachers

摘要 乡村教师工作条件艰苦、任务重,压力大,地位、待遇不高,他们长期扎根坚守于乡村教育,特别需要具有韧性。采用半结构访谈法,以湖南八位乡村小学教师为访谈对象,通过对资料的三级编码分析,发现乡村小学教师韧性具有十种核心特征,即对教育拥有强烈情感、对学生的关爱与责任感、将困难赋予积极意义、忍耐、知足、获得工作成就感、专业发展的活力、积极解决问题、积极情绪调节、善于人际沟通与交往。这些特征成为培育乡村小学教师"下得去、留得住、教得好"的重要因素。 It has been consistently reported that teaching is a physically and emotionally demanding job with low reward.To keep teaching in rural areas requires resilience.Drawing upon the in-depth semistructured interviews with a sample of eight rural school teachers in Hunan province,the study analyzed the data by three-level coding and found that there were ten critical characteristics of resilience of rural primary school teachers:commitment to teaching,caring and responsibility for students,viewing tough things in a positive manner,endurance,satisfaction,sense of achievement,active professional development,positive problem solving,active emotional adjustment,and being good at communication and building rapport.These characteristics could explain why those teachers came to teach,kept teaching and taught well in rural primary schools.
